The biannual West Africa Power and Petroleum Awards (WAPPA) features seven (7) award categories.

This honor is given to exceptional Heads of State who, through their leadership and guidance, have implemented policies and projects within their power and petroleum subsectors that contribute to sustainable national energy development.
The Award recognises the outstanding efforts of government energy ministers at demonstrating excellence in their respective sectors, designing and implementing sustainable energy policies, and supporting government leaders and service providers to promote innovation and foresight in their initiatives and operations through enabling environments.
Awarded to a person who has made significant contributions to the energy sector in West Africa and gained widespread success and acclaim for their efforts. This category includes figures from the public and private sectors.
Awarded to a company or institution within the oil and gas value chain - upstream, midstream or downstream subsector - that achieved impeccable results and reputation within the energy sector. The nominee must have demonstrated overall industry leadership in terms of digitalization, operational continuity, labor and environmental interest protection, and financial success.
Awarded to a company or institution within the power subsector that achieved impeccable results and reputation in the sub-region. The nominee must have demonstrated overall industry leadership in terms of digitalization, operational continuity, labor and environmental interest protection, and financial success. The awardee must stand out for having an innovative design, timely engineering upgrades, dependable generation with less downtime, relatively cheaper power rates, or an environmentally friendly generation strategy.
This award will recognise transformative, scalable, and ambitious government initiatives that have strengthened the climate action resolve necessary to keep the rise in the world's average temperature under control and to build resilience for its effects. The award seeks to honor those who not only take such action but also set an inspiring example for other businesses, governments, cities, and communities to follow.
This award honours energy-related projects in West Africa that serve a clear social purpose and help those who are most in need to improve their living conditions. These initiatives can fall within the fields of education, energy vulnerability, entrepreneurship, social inclusion, health and environmental projects, or among other relevant fields. The projects submitted for consideration must be ongoing or completed.
